Two Jammu and Kashmir policemen and two Army personnel were today martyred in an ongoing encounter in Kupwara's Halmatpora. Two cops have sustained injuries. Four unidentified terrorists were killed in the operation last night in a forest area in the district. The encounter was triggered when terrorists fired at a joint party of the Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police, said defence spokesman (Srinagar) Col Rajesh Kalia. The operation was aided by the Army's Para Commandos. A police officer said that a joint team of the Army's 41 Rashtriya Rifles and SOG launched the operation following inputs about the movement of seven foreign terrorists in the area.
