Ahmedabad is going to host the National Level Football Championship for the first time. The 72nd Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy (West Zone) has been organized at Arena TransStadia, Maninagar, Ahmedabad from 8th to 13th January, 2018. Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani will kick-off the tournament at 2.30 PM on January 8, 2018 (Monday). 
Santosh Trophy is a prestigious National level Football championship. It is played in zone wise – East Zone, West Zone, South Zone, North Zone and North-East Zone. The seven State Football teams will participate in the 72 nd Senior National Championship for Santosh Trophy (West Zone), of which two top teams will qualify for the National Championship. Seven teams are divided in two groups: Group A: Gujarat, Goa and Rajashtan, Group B: Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Daman & Diu and Lakshadweep. Total nine (09) matches will be played in five days. Gujarat will face Rajasthan in the inaugural match on January 8, 2018. Gujarat Vs Goa is scheduled on January 12, 2018.
