Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government's uneasy relationship with the bureaucracy is once again out in open with Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash alleging that he was mishandled by two MLAs of the ruling party in the chief minister's presence. AAP MLA Ajay Dutt, on the other hand, has written to the police to lodge an FIR against the Delhi Chief Secretary for using "casteist remarks" against him. Since forming the government in 2015, the Aam Aadmi Party has had several run-ins with the bureaucrats. We list three such incidents for you:
Soon after coming to power, the Arvind Kejriwal government opposed the appointment of senior bureaucrat Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting Delhi Chief Secretary. "We opposed the appointment of Chief Secretary (Gamlin), but Modi's government appointed her as CS," Kejriwal alleged.
The matter took an ugly turn when AAP government locked the office of another senior bureaucrat Anindo Majumdar, who was Principal Secretary (Services). Majumdar had issued an order notifying the appointment of Shakuntala Gamlin as acting Chief Secretary.
Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government and Delhi Principal Secretary (Public Works Department) Ashwani Kumar were at loggerheads over charges that Kumar did not oversee the desilting of drains ahead of monsoon.
In a sharply-worded letter to then Chief Secretary M M Kutty, Arvind Kejriwal had sought strict action against the 1992-batch IAS officer and alleged that Kumar refused to step outside his air-conditioned office even when the health of "the entire population is at stake".
Ahead of the Aam Aadmi Party completing three years in office last week, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reportedly met Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash over clearance for a proposed television advertisement.
The ad was pending clearance due to a particular line in the ad: "When you walk on the path of truth and honesty, all seen and unseen forces of the universe help you".
