Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday announced its support for BJP's nominee for President Ram Nath Kovind, dealing a hard blow to the opposition's efforts to turn the election into a larger ideological fight against the saffron camp. Orchestrated by Bihar chief minister and party president Nitish Kumar, the decision to break ranks with the opposition was announced after a meeting of JD(U) legislators and senior leaders in Patna in the evening.
