A week after a high-powered committee led by the PM removed Alok Verma as CBI director, the government “curtailed” the tenure of his estranged number two, special director Rakesh Asthana, on Thursday while also shifting Verma’s factional aides, joint director A K Sharma and DIG Manish Sinha.
The officers were moved out of the investigating agency with “immediate effect”. Another officer, Jayant Naiknavare, was transferred from the CBI to his parent Maharashtra cadre.
