Every year, activists are killed for protesting destruction of the environment and encroachment upon indigenous lands. As industries expand, more land is threatened and those affected often don’t have the resources or clout to fight back. As reported by the Guardian, nearly 200 environmental defenders were killed in 2017, and 2018 has already seen 30 reported deaths.
