A sequence of dramatic developments late on Tuesday night culminated in the government sending the CBI’s feuding No.1 and 2, director Alok Verma and special director Rakesh Asthana, on leave on the basis of a strongly worded report from the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). It is the first time in the agency’s 55-year history that its chief has been divested of his duties in the middle of a tenure.
