Government-run schools and junior colleges in Pune have been instructed to form committees dedicated to ‘Menstrual Hygiene Management’, to help adolescent girls understand the menstrual cycle and the hygienic habits to be practiced in schools or colleges. The government aims to improve girls’ school attendance during their menstrual cycle.
The committees will be monitored by a task force, headed by municipal commissioners and chief executive officers at municipal corporation and zilla parishad levels, who are primarily responsible for conducting training sessions for teachers and implementing awareness campaigns. The decision came as part of the Swachch Bharat, Swach Vidyalay missions.
