The government has decided not to table the triple talaq bill in the Rajya Sabha in the monsoon session, which ends on Friday, and defer it to the next session. The Union cabinet had on Thursday approved three amendments to the measure, officially called the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017, including adding a provision of granting bail to the men found guilty of giving instant triple talaq. The bill had been passed by the Lok Sabha last year but will have to be passed again by the lower house in view of the changes, once it is approved by the Rajya Sabha.
