Two persons lost their lives when a wooden boat overturned in the Mahanadi River near Lakhanpur, located in the Jharsuguda district on Friday afternoon, the chief minister’s office confirmed.
The death toll may rise as seven people, including women and children, are missing. Rescue operations are underway.
The boat was carrying a total of 50 passengers, all of whom hailed from the neighboring state of Chhattisgarh. They were traveling from Kharseni in Chhattisgarh to Patharseni in the Ambabhona block of the Bargarh district for tourism purposes
