A total of 7,000 engineers, graduates and diploma-holders have applied for 549 grade-1 posts of sanitary workers in the city Corporation in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore. Some applicants are already employed in private firms but they prefer the government job as the starting salary is ₹15,700. Those already working as contractual sanitary workers for the last 10 years have also applied.
