Political drama erupted in Goa, as 10 out of the 15 Congress MLAs in the 40-member Assembly of the coastal state met Speaker Rajesh Patnekar in Panaji. Reports suggest that the 10 MLAs might soon join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The group of 10 MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar has met Speaker Rajesh Patnekar to inform him about their decision to exit the submit their resignation.

The total strength of the Goa Legislative Assembly is 40 while the BJP’s strength is 17 it has the support of the Goa Forward Party with three MLAs and three independents all six of whom are ministers.

It is as yet unclear whether the splinter group will seek to ‘merge’ with the BJP. If accomplished the BJP will have 27 MLAs and a majority on its own and will not require the support of the Goa Forward Party and Independents.
