In a sudden and unexpected move, Ahmedabad's super cop, Deepan Bhadran who used to head the Crime Branch of the city has been transferred to Jamnagar as the superintendent of police.

However, sources said Bhadran's transfer is surely not routine. Sources also claimed that Bhadran's transfer could have been effected to break a land extortion syndicate run by powerful people in Jamnagar. Bhadran, 39, had been serving in the Ahmedabad DCB for the past five years, considered as a high profile post, has been entrusted with the task of putting a leash to the growing notoriety of Gangster Jayesh Patel who has unleashed a wave of terror in Jamnagar.

Jayesh Patel, who is known to allegedly have the blessings of a senior minister in the Rupani Cabinet, aims to become the next Vishal Goswami. "He is an accused in 41 criminal cases including murder extortion and land grabbing", said a senior police official.

Jayesh Patel, who is believed to have fled to Dubai is known for grabbing land by forging documents. Police sources also said Patel is accused of forging documents of land worth of over Rs 100 crore. The police also alleged that he hired contract killers to eliminate advocate Kirit Joshi who was fighting a legal battle against land grabbing.

"Bhadran's latest posting is in response to a slew of complaints from the influential business community to curb this nuisance which has grown out of hands. Since Jamnagar is an important district politically in Saurashtra, the government has sent a trustworthy officer", said a senior home department official.
