Amid sugar price rise, the Central government on Tuesday extended the time period for processing and domestic sale of imported raw sugar to two months from the date of its entry, in response to the concerns raised by the industry over shipping delays.
While allowing import of 1 million tonnes of raw sugar to boost local supplies and rein in prices, the government had earlier asked importers to process the raw sugar and sell it in the domestic market by October 31.
