The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the merger of state-run telecom operators BSNL and MTNL along with "attractive" VRS package for employees. The government will raise Rs. 15,000 crore via sovereign bonds for the revival of the companies and will provide them 4G spectrum on an administrative basis. Assets of BSNL and MTNL worth Rs. 38,000 crore will be monetised.
