The government today asked the Supreme Court for "victim-centric" guidelines in death penalty cases and a time-limit for convicts using their last available legal options. The Centre has asked the Supreme Court to set a seven-day time limit for death-row convicts to file mercy petitions after receiving death warrant. The Centre sought the imposition of a time limit on filing curative petition after a review was rejected. A death row convict is given 14 days' time after the mercy petition is rejected by the President.
