At close, the Sensex was up 724.02 points or 1.78% at 41340.16, and the Nifty was up 211.80 points or 1.78% at 12120.30. About 1702 shares have advanced, 899 shares declined, and 171 shares are unchanged.   Hindalco, SBI, Tata Steel, BPCL and IndusInd Bank were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Hero MotoCorp and HDFC Life.   All the sectoral indices ended in the green led by the Nifty Metal (up 4 percent), while Bank, Energy and Infra indices rose 2 percent each. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices added over 1.5 percent each.
