A lesbian couple in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district has sought police protection after their families opposed their decision to get married and allegedly threatened them of dire consequences, an official said.
The two women met each other while studying at a college in Ghaziabad. Additional Superintendent of Police (Shamli), Rajesh Srivastava said that the women have been in love for the past six months.
The police registered a complaint against the two families and asked them not to harass the couple. The police assured the couple of safety and sent them back to their homes.
