Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, on Monday, declined urgent listing of petitions linked to the controversial “Cockroach Janata Party” movement, telling a lawyer not to take the issue “so sentimentally” when concerns were raised over alleged misuse of his earlier remarks.

During oral arguments before the Supreme Court, Advocate NK Goswami submitted that despite clarifications issued by the Chief Justice, a “distorted and malicious narrative” continued to circulate on social media.

“Don’t take it so sentimentally,” CJI Surya Kant responded, adding that there was “no such grave urgency” in the matter and that the pleas would be considered “in due course”.
