The Hindi heartland states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand are where the ruling BJP-led NDA is expected to make maximum gains. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Smriti Irani, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav are in the fray from these states.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP os leading in 39 seats, BSP in 8 seats, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party in 3 seats while the Congress is ahead in 1 seat.  PM Modi is leading with a massive margin in Varanasi, Sonia Gandhi is ahead with 11,174 votes.  In Madhya Pradesh, BJP is leading on 27 seats, while Congress on 2. On the other hand in Rajasthan, the saffron party is leading on 24 seats and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) on 1 seat.  In Bihar, the JD(U) is ahead with 12 seats, BJP with 10, LJP 3 and RJD is trailing with 1 seat.
