At least nine people have died and five others were injured after a bridge in Gujarat’s Vadodara district collapsed early this morning, Vadodara Collector Anil Dhameliya confirmed.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and announced ex-gratia compensation for the victims’ families.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “The loss of lives due to the collapse of a bridge in Vadodara district is deeply saddening. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.” He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
