Former Union Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday, 21 August, addressed a press conference following lookout notices issued against him by ED and CBI.

P Chidambaram said, "I believe that the foundation of a democracy is liberty. The most precious Article in India is Article 21. If I have to choose between life and liberty, I will unhesistatingly choose liberty. To freedom, we must struggle. To preserve freedom too, we must struggle. My statement today is to dispel the concern and confusion.

"In the INX media case, I have not been accused of any offence. In fact, there is no chargesheet filed before a competent court. Yet, there is a widespread impression that grave offences have been committed by my son and I. These are lies spread by pathalogical liars."

"I was aghast that I was accused of hiding from the law. On the contrary, I was seeking protection of law. My lawyers tell that case will be listed on Friday. I bow down to orders of Supreme Court. I respect law even if it is applied with an unequal hand by probe agencies," said P Chidambaram at the Congress headquarters in Delhi.

High drama played out at the Congress headquarters as P Chidambaram left soon after he wrapped up his brief press conference. The CBI team, which arrived at the headquarters, was again unable to get a hold of the senior Congress leader.
