The first few cases of the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of the Omicron COVID-19 variant have been confirmed in India by the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Consortium on Genomics (INSACOG). A 19-year-old female in Tamil Nadu and a South African traveller in Hyderabad have been found positive for BA.4 subvariant. An 80-year-old Telangana man has been found positive for BA.5 subvariant.
