India has approved its first dengue vaccine, QDENGA (TAK-003), marking a significant milestone in the country's fight against one of its fastest-growing mosquito-borne diseases. Approved by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), the vaccine has been developed by Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda and is designed to protect against all four dengue virus serotypes.

Who can receive the vaccine?

QDENGA has been approved for people between the ages of 4 and 60 years. According to Takeda, the vaccine is given as two injections of 0.5 ml each, with the second dose administered three months after the first.

The company said the vaccine is designed to protect against all four dengue virus serotypes, which continue to circulate across different parts of India.
