India's space programme is preparing for one of its biggest structural transformations yet, with ISRO set to gradually move away from manufacturing launch vehicles and routine satellites, handing these activities over to the private sector.
The proposed change does not mean a reduced role for ISRO. Instead, the space agency is expected to focus more heavily on research, new technologies, scientific missions and specialised infrastructure, with mature technologies eventually moving to industry for commercial production.
