The head of a private television news channel and its editor were arrested here Saturday for allegedly broadcasting defamatory content against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, police said.

Nation Live had allegedly broadcast a video of a woman who claimed she wanted to marry Adityanath. Nation Live head Ishita Singh and Anuj Shukla, an editor, were arrested for allegedly propagating defamatory content.

Prashant Kanojia, a freelance journalist, was arrested after a complaint by a police officer in Lucknow, alleging he tried to "malign" the Chief Minister's image. He has been arrested under Section 67 of the Information Act and has been charged of criminal defamation and making statements causing "public mischief".

An additional complaint over the illegal operation of the channel was made by district additional director, information, at Phase 3 police station following which an FIR under IPC sections 420 (fraud), 467 (forgery of documents) and related offences was registered, the officer said.
