The southern Indian state of Karnataka, home to the tech hub of Bengaluru, has banned the use of social media by those under the age of 16, state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Friday.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made the announcement during his budget speech on Friday, saying the measure is intended to address the growing impact of smartphones and digital platforms on children. This move makes Karnataka, the first state in India to ban social media.
