Manju Rani (48kg) ensured at least a silver for herself by qualifying for the finals in her weight category at the women’s World Boxing Championships in Ulan-Ude, Russia. Rani lost to the second-seeded Russian Ekaterina Paltceva in the 48-kilogram category in the final match of the tournament. Debutant Rani was the lone Indian to enter the final, with six-time champion MC Mary Kom and two others signing off with bronze medals.
