Nagaland, the 16th state of the Indian Union, was established on 1 December 1963. Hindi isn’t the most popular medium of communication in the northeast, especially in states like Nagaland, Meghalaya and Mizoram, which have dominant Christian populations.

For the first time in the history of the Nagaland Assembly Session, the National Anthem music "Jana Gana Mana" was played in the House seconds before Governor RN Ravi addressed the 7th Session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on February 12, 2021. The National Anthem was again played after he finished delivering his address to the House.
In fact, when the Press personnel, in the Press Gallery, anxiously waiting to listen to his Address to the House, were suddenly surprised by the National Anthem music and then they got up. Ravi created the history, so did the Press as they had to stand for the first time in the House.

Swami Dharmabandhuji of Vedic Mission Trust, during his Nagaland visit said to our reporter that, "It was a proud moment for me to meet Sri R N Ravi, an IPS officer of 1976 batch who retired as a Special Director in Intelligence Bureau and presently serving as Hon'ble Governor of Nagaland.I was highly pleased to know that due to his efforts, it was for the first time Nagaland Legislative Assembly recited Jana Gana Mana, the National Anthem of India. His negotiating skills, untiring efforts and the nationalist in him have been responsible to control and contain terrorism and make Nagaland a progressive state of India".
