Former finance minister P Chidambaram has been spared the embarrassment of being sent to Tihar jail under judicial custody for now, with the Supreme Court saying he would remain in CBI custody till Thursday when it would hear his plea challenging the trial court order remanding him to police custody.
The court, however, later brought forward the hearing to Tuesday after the CBI pointed out that there would be a procedural hitch as Chidambaram completes 15 days of police remand on Tuesday which cannot be further extended.
