Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday hailed India’s 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of FY27. In his video message, PM Modi took an apparent swipe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition over what he described as a campaign of pessimism and “jhooth ki goonj" (echo of lies).

In continuation of his attempts to connect with Gen Z, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Instagram with a selfie-style video highlighting the economy's stronger-than-expected performance in the first quarter of 2026-27, despite the "jhooth ki goonj" being spread across the country. Reviving his swadeshi pitch, PM Modi, who is in Bishkek for the SCO Summit, also urged Indians to cut back on overseas travel, destination weddings and unnecessary gold purchases.

The 'jhooth ki goonj' remark is being seen as a veiled swipe at Rahul Gandhi's 'Chhatron Ki Goonj' campaign to connect with the country's youth.
