Mumbai Police have increased security around the Enforcement Directorate's offices in Ballard Estate ahead of MNS leader Raj Thackeray's appearance before the agency today. The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief has been summoned in connection with a case linked to the collapse of shadow bank Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services (IL&FS). The probe agency is investigating him for alleged links to a construction company - .Kohinoor CTNL - which received loans and equity investments worth Rs. 450 crore from IL&FS.
Anticipating trouble from party workers likely to protest Raj Thackeray's summons and appearance, the police have also issued notices under sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure that empower them to carry out arrests without a warrant.
