The Supreme Court deferred the hearing on a plea seeking the protection of doctors in government hospitals, saying since doctors have called off their strike in West Bengal and other states, there is no urgency to hear the matter. The bench said that the matter of protection of doctors is serious and needs consideration, but is not urgent anymore, Bar and Bench reported.

The Supreme Court said it has to take a “holistic view” of the situation, not merely from the viewpoint of doctors. “We can’t protect doctors at the cost of other citizens,” it said. “We have to look at the larger picture. We are not against the protection given to doctors.”
