The Supreme Court on Tuesday quashed FIRs against student protesters filed between July 20-25 after the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) called off its march on September 20.

“If there is any other FIR in any of the state, pertaining to July 20-25 incidents, shall be considered to be closed," the bench said.

However, the apex court said Delhi Police shall register FIRs against 2,873 persons with serious criminal antecedents without prejudicing other parties.

The Supreme Court directed the Centre to provide compensation to families of NEET-UG students who died by suicide, within three months.

The Cockroach Janta Party told the Supreme Court that it has called off its September 5 protest. 

According to the CJP, the march was to be led by families of students who committed suicide following the cancellation of the NEET exam and the subsequent re-test, as well as those who were allegedly subjected to police excesses during the July agitation.
