The Telangana government has imposed a night curfew in the state starting Tuesday a day after the high court expressed strong displeasure against the state's response to the Covid-19 crisis.

The night curfew in Telangana will continue till April 30. This comes at a time when the state is witnessing a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in the second wave. Telangana on Tuesday reported 5,926 fresh Covid-19 cases and 18 deaths in the past 24 hours.

The Telangana High Court headed by Chief Justice Hima Kohli had on Monday expressed displeasure over the state government's response to the Covid-19 crisis.Disappointed, the court asked the government to take a call on imposing night curfew or weekend lockdown in the state and also warned that if the government failed to act in 48 hours, the court will pass orders.

Within hours, Telangana government has issued the night curfew orders. The night curfew in Telangana will come into force at 9 pm and end at 5 am. Starting on Tuesday, the night curfew will come off on April 30.
