A Kanpur court on Monday sentenced Rakesh Sachan, who heads the medium, small and micro enterprises and khadi departments in the Uttar Pradesh government, to one year in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 1,500 in a 1991 Arms Act case. Sachan, who joined the BJP from the Congress just before the recent state polls, was found guilty of keeping an illegal weapon on Saturday, August 6.
