The Central customer Protection Authority (CCPA) has penalized nine digital sites, including IndiGo, Zepto, Physics Wallah, FirstCry, book my show, Anuj Jindal, and PharmaEasy SpiceJet, for adopting "dark patterns," which are deceptive design practices that affect or control customer decisions online.
According to the government, the CCPA has so far collected around Rs 20 lakh in penalties from platforms found to be in violation.
Zepto Marketplace received the highest fine of Rs 7 lakh, Edtech platform Physics Wallah was fined Rs 5 lakh , FirstCry (Rs 2 lakh), Anuj Jindal (Rs 3 lakh), PharmEasy (Rs 1 lakh), McAfee (Rs 1 lakh), SpiceJet (Rs 1 lakh), IndiGo (Penalty not disclosed) and BookMyShow (Penalty not disclosed)
