Goa Speaker Pramod Sawant was to be sworn in as chief minister a day after Manohar Parrikar passed away, even though the political situation in the state remained uncertain with BJP ally Goa Forward Party leader Vijai Sardesai declaring that his party had not given a letter of support.
While an official communication said Sawant would be sworn in at 11pm on Monday night after gruelling discussions between BJP and its allies GFP, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and independents, Sardesai’s statement provided a sudden twist even as it appeared that the smaller parties had come around.
