Amit Shah on Tuesday became India's longest-serving Union Home Minister, surpassing the previous record held by senior BJP vetaran Lal Krishna Advani. Shah has completed a total of 2,258 days (approximately 6 years and 68 days) in office since he first assumed the role on May 30, 2019.
Advani served in this position for 2,256 days (from March 19, 1998, to May 22, 2004) and Govind Ballabh Pant served for 6 years and 56 days from January 10, 1955, to March 7, 1961.
