Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday offered his condolences to those who lost their loved ones in the tragic train accident in West Bengal’s Darjeeling. The PM said that he has spoken to the officials to take stock of the situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the relative of each deceased in the railway mishap in West Bengal. The injured would be compensated with Rs 50,000.

Meanwhile, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who is enroute to Darjeeling, announced an enhanced ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 2.5 lakh for seriously injured. Rs 50,000 will also be given to those who sustained minor injuries in the accident.
