Sensex was up 558.22 points or 1.47% at 38492.95, and the Nifty was up 168.70 points or 1.52% at 11300.50. About 1315 shares have advanced, 1300 shares declined, and 151 shares are unchanged. UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Tata Motors, TCS and Grasim Industries were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Bharti Infratel, ICICI Bank, ONGC, Nestle and Asian Paints. All the sectoral indices ended in the green. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices rose over 0.5 percent each.
