The largest prime number which has over 23 million digits has been discovered by mathematicians. Known as M77232917 (Mersenne prime), the largest prime number was discovered by calculating two to the power of 77,232,917 and subtracting one from it. The calculation left a prime number with 23,249,425 digits. The new prime number has one million more digits than the last one, discovered in January 2016 and would take nearly 9,000 pages if printed out and would be 118 kilometres long if stretched out.
