Security forces have neutralised three terrorists during a fierce encounter in the Akhal forest area of Devsar locality in Kulgam district, officials confirmed on Saturday.
The joint operation, launched on Friday evening by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, was based on specific intelligence inputs about militant movement in the dense forest region. One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Haris Nazir, a Pulwama resident affiliated with Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and classified as a Category-C militant. The operation, codenamed Operation Akhal, remains ongoing as forces continue search and retrieval efforts in the rugged terrain.
