Domestic factors, especially weak economic data, weighed on investor sentiment on Tuesday to pull the sensex down by 770 points or 2% to 36,563 points, as 28 of the index’s 30 constituents closed in the red. As a result, investors were left poorer by Rs 2.6 lakh crore with BSE’s market capitalization now at Rs 137.8 lakh crore. Dwindling investor confidence combined with foreign fund selling could result in more downside for the market, warned brokers. On the global front, the US-China trade war is also spooking the markets, they said.
